Producers Doc Laladay and Penelope Lane fully acknowledge the real-life Jesse James was an evil man. This production does not glorify him or his worldview. He was a killer, a Confederate, grossly neglected his family to pursue his ambitions, and more. He exhibited behavioral symptoms many medical professionals today would liken to extreme PTSD. He was also, almost without question, the most significant outlaw in the history of the American West. Penny and Doc take the sensitivity associated with this controversial individual very seriously, and feel fiction can be effectively separated from historical reality for the purpose of telling a fun story. For example, the real life Doc Holiday had a similar worldview as Jesse James. He became a pop-culture folk hero almost entirely due to Val Kilmer's portrayal of the historical Holiday in the 90s movie, Tombstone. The character of Doc Laladay in Eorzea has made a point of casting the widest possible net in terms of inclusivity. The two, while sharing a moniker, could not be more different.Ultimately, our goal is to tell a fun story that puts an Eorzean spin on the most significant outlaw of the American West.
